Plant Care Guidelines

Adaptation:
Zones 4 through 8. Hyacinths may be grown in zones 9 and 10 if they are precooled (see below). To determine your zone, see the map in
Plant Climate Zone Map.

Flowering Time:
Spring.

Light:
Full sun to half-day sun.

Planting Time:
Fall.

Soil:
Well drained. pH 6.0 to 7.5.

Fertilizer:
When planting, mix 1 teaspoon of bone meal or superphosphate into the soil at the bottom of the planting hole. During the growing season, fertilize with a balanced plant food according to label directions.

Water:
How much: Apply enough water to wet the soil 1 to 1½ feet deep.

How often: Water when the soil an inch below the surface is just barely moist. Stop watering the bulbs when the foliage turns yellow.

Handling:
Continue to water and fertilize plants regularly until the foliage turns yellow. Remove foliage after it has turned yellow. In zones 9 and 10, precool bulbs for 6 weeks before planting by storing them in paper bags in the refrigerator crisper.
